Distance Between Us - Journal Submissions 1
Actually ,this is my first English novel. I am very grateful to Professor Lee for giving this reading task to me . At first, I felt pressured and doubted I could not finish it at all. However, as I gradually immersed the story ,I found I was completely captivated by it, Without realizing it, my English reading skills improved along the way. At the beginning, I had to constantly look up words, but later I was able to guess meanings and read smoothly from start to finish. I realized that reading is such a wonderful way to learn.
The author, RENA, uses very emontional and detailed writing to describe her childhood experiences including family separation, poverty, despair, and the lack of love. She also tells the story of immigrating to the United States, what a ruough time of crosing the brodor, and her relationships with her parents and siblings. what she had experienced make me so sorry and made me tear up several times, but Rena didn't give up pursuing education and dreams, In the end, RENA becomes the person she wanted to be. This is a deeply moving American Dream. the outcome in America gave me comfort and inspering me a lot It is truly a touching American Dream.
I want to talk it I want to share my thoughts from three aspects:
Firstly,Belief in Education Despite Difficult Childhood. No matter how terrible RENA’s childhood and family environment were, she always believed that education was the most important thing. She persisted in studying even when her father opposed it and she insisted on going to college. Unlike some who gave up because her sister and brother did, she used a growth mindset to overcome all difficulties.
Secondly ,Passion and Perseverance.RENA loved writing and reading from a very young age. At first, her English was poor. Once, in a writing contest, her essay was not selected by the teacher, and she felt very discouraged. However, she did not give up. Instead, she remembered the teacher’s words that one day her writing would be recognized. This kept her going.
Thirdly, Meeting a Mentor Who Changed Her Life. She met an important teacher who encouraged her and made her believe she could become a great writer. This gave her a clearer direction and motivated her to work hard.In the united states, some person having great love always offering help to others without expecting anything in return. Finally, RENA realized her dream—she graduated from college and became an outstanding writer.
Reading this made me very moved. This is the American Dream of ordinary people. No matter who you are, how difficult your family situation is, or how hard your childhood has been, as long as you never give up, the world will reward you in the most wonderful way.
